This condom advertisement has been circulated via email a few years ago. It had made available on the Internet via YouTube as well. There is no clear evidence of this advertisement neither went on-air nor banned. This advertisement seems to target the European audiences. Most of people might find this advertisement humorous. I am one of them. This advertisement is quite popular as well, as it has more than 2 millions views on YouTube.

Although I find this advertisement quite humorous one, partly because of my generation and I have been living overseas and explode to Western culture for long. Sex, condom and liberated lifestyle is very much part of Western culture. However, thinking of elderly and whole society back home in Thailand. This advertisement will not even got a chance to be produced, let alone to be on-aired. The advertisement agency will never come up with this kind of controversial advertisement. Most of Thai society is somehow associate “condom” to premarital sex or casual sexual intercourse, which is not acceptable in Thai culture. It is almost taboo to have a premarital sex. However, premarital sex and casual sexual intercourse seems to be more acceptable in Western culture. It is easily can be seen from this advertisement.

Although, sex education has been taught in school in Thailand. Casual sexual intercourse and premarital sex has never been encouraged. However, the tendency of casual sexual intercourse among the new generation are higher than the previous generation. For us; young generation, we are more open and explode to this kind of media. If my parent or most of Thai adult saw this advertisement, I don’t think they will appreciate this kind of advertisement or this kind of humorous media. Thai culture will never allow this. This is clear that the differences of opinions and way of thinking toward this advertisement is influenced by different cultural background; Western culture versus Asian culture, or even younger generation versus older generation.
